Scholarships

The North Florida Junior Golf Foundation is proud to offer academic scholarships through the NFJG Scholarship Program. All current and past members who are enrolled or plan to enroll as a full time student in an accredited college or university are encouraged to apply. See details below:

Apply For A Scholarship

The following contains information regarding the North Florida Junior Golf Foundation (NFJG) Scholarship Program. Students and parents should read it thoroughly, including the program description and general instructions before filling out the application. Here area few reminders:

  • Applications must be completed online or the paper version must be returned to the NFJG on or before Friday May 30, 2012 (receipt date, NOT postmark date). Return address: NFJG Foundation, Attn: Richard Whittaker, P.O. Box 551704, Jacksonville, FL 32255.
  • Applicants MUST be 2011 members (or past members currently in college) of the NFJG. The involvement or achievement in the Foundation tournament program is not part of the selection criteria.
  • Applicants must have completed (or plan to complete) high school prior to August 1, 2012 and enroll (or plan to enroll) in an accredited college or university.

Along with each application, the applicant must submit the following information:

  • A copy of his/her most recent transcript
  • A copy of his/her ACT/SAT test scores
  • Your personal statement

A. Purpose
The purpose of the NFJG Scholarship Program is to encourage and promote the attainment of high education goals for Foundation members who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement during school or college.

B. Eligibility
Applicants for the NFJG Scholarship Program must be 2012 members (or past members currently in college) of the NFJG. The involvement or achievement in the Foundation tournament program is not part of the selection criteria. Applicants must have completed (or plan to complete) high school prior to August 1, 2012 and must be enrolled (or planning to enroll) as a full time student. A full time student is defined as one who is taking 12 or more hours in a course of study leading to a traditional associate (2 year) or baccalaureate (4 year) degree at an accredited college or university located within the United States, or considered a full-time student by his/her respective institution

C. Scholarships
The NFJG Scholarship Program is designed to award one-year and four-year scholarships. The 2012 awards are:
Foundation One-Year Awards Foundation Awards ($2,500)
•Buster Reed Memorial Award

Foundation One-Year Awards Foundation Awards ($1,200)
•Andy Anderson Memorial Award

Foundation Four-Year Awards Foundation Awards ($8,000)**
**The Foundation Four-Year Awards are renewed annually for four consecutive years. Total award amount is listed above.

D. Selection of Winners
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the following competitive basis by using a combination of criteria on class level:

  • Financial Need
  • Academic Performance – includes high school/college grades, G.P.A. and/or ACT/SAT scores.
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Your Personal Statement
  • Applicant Interview

Extracurricular activities and “Your Personal Statement” will help the Committee further evaluate the candidate’s interests and abilities. Contributions to the community may be demonstrated by involvement in local clubs and organizations/associations. Extracurricular activities should be documented by type and years involved.

E. Announcement of Winners
Successful applicants will be announced at the Tournament of Champions Dinner (2012 date TBD).
